If you were looking for the tallest skyscraper in Italy, look no further: it’s in Portanuova. Its distinctive pinnacle has become an undisputed symbol of the Milan landscape: it is the UniCredit Tower, standing at 231 metres. It is part of a complex of three towers designed by studio Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, which hug Piazza Gae Aulenti with their curvy and winding lines. The abundant use of glass on the façades makes the towers almost evanescent, which creates spectacular light effects and different colour reflections depending on the time of day. All three buildings have achieved a LEED GOLD certification, as a testament of the role that all-around sustainability was given at every stage of their design and construction.
