A new stairway to join the Station from the Biblioteca degli Alberi park

On Sunday 23 October, BAM presented the 2nd edition of “BAM! The Park becomes an Island”, giving life to a massive outdoor celebration dedicated to Portanuova’s historic “next-door neighbourhood”: Isola. In a blend of modernity and tradition, the District of the future opens its arms to veggià Milan (the old Milan) with lots of free events and the contributions of numerous cultural and social entities of the area.

As well as the rich schedule of events and activities, “The Park becomes an Island” also includes two special events led by the famous Banda d’Affori (a band with a 160-year plus tradition!), and most of all the opening of the Garibaldi Stairway between the homonymous Station and the Library of Trees: a useful and attended direct connection to happily stroll back and forth from the Park to the Isola neighbourhood without street interruptions.

The event has also introduced the new mirrored coating of the BAM air shaft (designed to ventilate the underlying area) in Piazza Gae Aulenti, a new landmark of the Park adorned with plates stating the name of the park, the City of Milan, the Riccardo Catella Foundation, and the partners involved in maintenance, cleaning, security, culture, and care of the over 10 hectares (25 acres) of BAM greenery.

Do your part and suggest a name for the new area through a call for proposals on the BAM social network pages! Visit the BAM website to find out more.
