The new Isybank headquarters? A shard of sustainability

First of all, let’s give a warm welcome to the new “tenants” of Portanuova: the Intesa Sanpaolo Group has just inaugurated its new headquarters at Gioia 22, where 3,000 professionals will work. Welcome to Portanuova!

The iconic skyscraper is designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, a prestigious architecture firm founded in 1977, which has designed some of the world’s most famous buildings, such as the World Financial Centre in New York, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, and the International Finance Center in Hong Kong, in addition to the iconic Unicredit Tower right here in Portanuova, at Piazza Gae Aulenti.

Gioia 22, this is the official name of the building chosen by Intesa Sanpaolo, is located where the headquarters of INPS used to be. From the beginning, due to its incredible inverted wedge shape, it was nicknamed “the Shard,” but it is important not to stop at the aesthetic aspect because the envelope is not the only element that characterizes the new Isybank headquarters.

The most important feature of this skyscraper is sustainability. Gioia 22 is the first tower in Italy to meet the Nearly Zero Energy Consumption Building (nZEB) standards and has already achieved the European objectives for 2050 in terms of 2°C decarbonization. 65% of the building’s energy needs are produced from renewable sources, which saves approximately 3,000 tons of CO2 per year.

In addition to the LEED Platinum environmental certification, Gioia 22 is also WELL Gold certified, which is excellent news for the new occupants. This means that the design has been attentive to the well-being of the people who work there, and the common areas on each floor transform the “break” into a moment of gathering and inclusion.
